"Redefining Wellness is about reclaiming the idea that health and weight are not necessarily dependent upon one another" Melainie Rogers
NEW YORK, NY, June 18, 2019 /24-7PressRelease/ -- BALANCE eating disorder treatment center™ of New York City has brought together nearly 150 experts and advocates and released a unique e-Book entitled 'Redefining Wellness: The Ultimate Diet-Free Guide for Teens and Families." The guide is a free downloadable resource for teens, young people and their loved ones.
Last year, BALANCE, founded by Melainie Rogers, an international eating disorder expert and registered dietitian, responded swiftly to Weight Watchers' announcement to offer free memberships to teens, with the launch of their #WakeUpWeightWatchers campaign. To continue their efforts to educate the public about the dangers of diet culture, the handbook provides comprehensive information to teens on living happier, healthier lives without an emphasis on weight loss.
With education and awareness being the top preventative measures for teens from developing eating and body image disorders, the guidebook was launched earlier this month in conjunction with World Eating Disorders Action Day.
The main goal of the 'Redefining Wellness' e-Book is to provide people of all genders, racial and ethnic identities, nationalities, abilities, sizes, and socioeconomic backgrounds with reliable information that focuses on wellness, not weight loss. The publication is an impressive compendium that embraces topics including diet culture, weight stigma, body image, Health at Every Size (HAES), nutrition, intuitive eating, mindfulness, self-esteem, social media messaging, perfectionism, eating disorder awareness, mental health, and parenting. Readers have access to the websites and social media links of the many contributors and can avail themselves of an extensive list of international resources targeted to provide support to young people and parents.
BALANCE Founder Melainie Rogers spoke about the e-Book project that has been in the making for the last year and shared the following, "Redefining Wellness is about reclaiming the idea that health and weight are not necessarily dependent upon one another. Dieting behavior often increases the risk of developing poor body image, lower self-esteem and disordered eating behaviors. The hope is that the guide promotes teens to identify, challenge and reject diet culture, decreasing their risk of developing an eating disorder."
"Redefining Wellness: The Ultimate Diet-Free Guide for Teens and Families" is now available for download to all at the following website: redefiningwellness.co
