LOS ANGELES, CA, August 16, 2019 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Step Up is pleased to announce the 20th Anniversary Celebration for Daniel's Place, scheduled for Wednesday, September 25 from 6 pm to 8:30 p.m. at the Skirball Cultural Center, 2701 N. Sepulveda Blvd. Los Angeles, CA 90049. The event will honor longtime Step Up supporter and local philanthropist Arthur Greenberg, founding partner of Greenberg Glusker (https://www.greenbergglusker.com/) and Step Up founder, Susan Dempsay.
"We don't typically hold large scale fundraising events, but we felt this milestone was too important not to celebrate. Honoring both Arthur and Susan for their longtime support for Step Up, especially its programs for transition age youth and their families, is a privilege," said Deidre Strohm, Chief Development Officer. Tod Lipka, Step Up's President and CEO, continued, "Daniel's Place is an essential program for the community. With the recent point in time count released by LAHSA indicating youth homelessness has increased more than 23% this year over last year, the work with these youth is even more critical to resolving the long-term issue of homelessness in our communities. If we do not address the needs of young people experiencing mental health conditions and homelessness now, we will have to address them later, when their mental health conditions have gone untreated and their homelessness has become chronic."
Current sponsors of the event include Aligne Wealth Preservation & Insurance, Union Bank, The Attias Family Foundation, David Geffen Foundation, Alliance Bernstein, Harding Larmore Kutcher & Kozal, and Anant Patel & Family.
ABOUT DANIEL'S PLACE & DANIEL'S PLACES
Daniel's Place is Step Up's flagship transition age youth program (TAY), serving youth ages 16-28 who are experiencing mental health conditions, and many of the youth are experiencing homelessness. Services include a drop-in center, open seven days a week, offers support groups, case management, medication support, job and educational training and meals. Daniel's Place serves 500 unduplicated youth each year and links the youth and their families to essential services to foster stability and hope.
Daniel's Places are the broader TAY programs across the agency serving youth 18-28 with mental health and medication support, job and educational training, and permanent supportive housing. Daniel's Places serves more than 800 youth per year in Los Angeles County.
Daniel's Place is named in honor of Daniel Greenberg, a scholar, athlete, actor, humanitarian, an outreach worker at Step Up, and a member of its Board of Directors. Daniel's Place was created to honor Daniel's memory and to educate and support young persons in recovery from mental health concerns.
