ATLANTA, GA, September 20, 2019 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The Georgia Society of CPAs (GSCPA) and the Georgia Food Bank Association (GFBA) are pleased to announce the results of the sixth annual Georgia Accounting Food Fight, which took place Aug. 12 – 23. During the friendly, two-week competition, accounting professionals statewide raised food and funds for 9 food banks across the state. Everything each team raises stays local and benefits the food bank that serves their community. Since its inception in 2014, the Georgia Accounting Food Fight has collectively raised $807,477 and 58,499 pounds of food.
This year, over 70 accounting firms and industry accounting departments representing over 6,000 members of the industry competed in the Food Fight, raising $192,692 and 3,314 pounds of food for Georgia's food banks, the equivalent of 774,083 meals.
The GFBA presented awards in several categories, including Food Fight Hero, Hunger Champion, Industry, Sole Proprietor, Big Four, Large Firm, Medium Firm, and Small Firm. Teams earn points for raising food, funds, volunteering, and more. For the fourth year running, Sole Proprietor Anna Abernathy, CPA, in Lawrenceville won the honor of Grand Prize Food Fight Hero, raising $6,800 and earning the most points per employee statewide. The Grand Prize Hunger Champion Winner is Nichols, Cauley, & Associates, LLC, in Atlanta, raising $26,943 and 95 pounds of food with the most points overall statewide. Nearly 1 in 5 children in Georgia is food insecure, meaning they may not know where their next meal is coming from, and more than 60 percent of Georgia's kids rely on free and reduced meals at school. When these same children are home during the summer months without this resource, their families often struggle to put enough food on the table, and demand for support from the food banks increases. The Georgia Accounting Food Fight is timed to help restock the shelves following the summer to ensure that kids and families have access to food all year round.
"The Georgia Accounting Food Fight is a rallying point for our firm during the summer. The two-week Food Fight has become part of our culture. You can tell from our participation that our team really gets behind the cause of the Atlanta Community Food Bank. Being recognized as a Food Fight winner is a tribute to our team." - Todd McMullen, Moore Colson CPAs and Advisors
"This was our second year participating in the Georgia Accounting Food Fight. It was an amazing experience to see our various offices around the state help their local communities. It was even greater to see how the entire firm came together to fight hunger." - Robbie Eidson, Nichols, Cauley, & Associates, LLC
"GSCPA members are caring professionals making a big impact in their own communities through the Georgia Accounting Food Fight. We are so grateful to the competing firms and the Georgia Society of CPAs for these great results! This is the most successful competition of its kind in the accounting industry. We know that the real winners are the 1 in 7 Georgians who depend on the food bank network in times of need." - Danah Craft, Executive Director, Georgia Food Bank Association
