HONG KONG, October 01, 2019 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The acclaimed Food's Future Summit returns on 11th and 12th October at the Asia Society Hong Kong Center. Launched in 2017 to drive dialogue and community to build a more sustainable and vibrant food ecosystem, the Summit remains the regional pioneer and leader in this space. Taking place over two days of talks, showcases and meals, the Summit gathers an unparalleled spectrum of key players as speakers and participants, from industry leaders and experts, to innovative change-makers and conscious consumers.
2019 Special Feature – San Francisco Bay Area
This year's Summit will feature special speakers bringing insights and inspiration from the San Francisco (SF) Bay Area, thanks to 2019 co-host Global:SF. San Francisco is home to some of the world's most innovative and influential companies as well as a dynamic and diverse culinary scene. The SF delegation will include: Manuel Gonzalez, an industry heavyweight who founded Rabobank's FoodBytes! and TERRA accelerator before launching his own food tech fund and investment platform Global RIFF; Dr. Celine Schiff-Deb of Calysta, an innovative bio-technology company turning natural gas into protein; Alec Lee of Endless West, creator of the world's first molecular whiskey; and celebrated next-generation chefs like: Tanya Holland, Top Chef alumni and James Beard Foundation (JBF) Women's Entrepreneurial Leadership Program fellow; Brandon Jew of Michelin-starred Mister Jiu's, whose elevation of ethnic cuisine has been credited with rejuvenating the SF Chinatown; and pastry chef Belinda Leong of b.patisserie (located in SF, Hawaii and Korea), named JBF Outstanding Baker 2018.
Driving Regional Discourse Beyond the Headlines
The Food's Future Summit is uniquely positioned to drive the region's discourse on food's future, a topic that will only continue to grow in urgency and importance as our food systems come under increasing demographic and environmental strain. Global capital flows certainly recognise and reflect the significance of this space. In 2018 alone, Venture Capitalists poured some US$1.3 billion into food tech start-ups, while the global food and agriculture industry is already estimated to be worth at least US$8 trillion, and counting. The Asia-Pacific region occupies a central role in this equation, housing more than half of the world's population and estimated to become the world's biggest consumer of F&B by 2030. The Summit's programme and speakers are carefully curated each year to provide timely and crucial insight and foresight to this rapidly-evolving space, ensuring that attendees acquire relevant content and networks ahead of and beyond the headlines. Key topics and trends that will be covered this year include: investment trends in the food space; how our food is being improved and "future-proofed" – from alternative proteins (and not just the plant-based and lab-grown varieties) to other staples such as water and rice; how data, AI and other innovations are disrupting dining experiences and diets; how institutions can feasibly move beyond tokenism in the push for more sustainable dining practices; blockchain technologies securing our food chain; and changing profiles of conscious consumers. While attendance on both days will ensure optimum access to the full range of content, each day's programme is also designed to stand on its own, providing sufficient range and depth of coverage for single-day attendees.
Speakers and Panellists across both days include: Rickard Öste, one of the original inventors of Oatly, Dan Pathomvanich, CEO of NR Instant Produce, a pioneering food manufacturer funding other innovative food companies through initiatives such as Foodshot Global; Carrie Chan, founder of HK's first cell-cultured protein company Avant Meats; Adrien Desbaillets, MD of one of Asia's pioneering healthy food brands SaladStop!; Leo Chiu, CTO of Venture Capital firm Click Ventures, and local industry leaders and stalwarts like CEO of Green Monday David Yeung, and Chefs Shane Osborn, David Lai and Neil Tomes.
Witness and Experience the Launch of Several "Firsts"
The Summit strongly champions forward-thinking efforts and potential solutions to help build a more sustainable food's future, and has become a preferred platform for launches and announcements of new projects and concepts. 2019 attendees will witness first-hand the launch of an innovative platform by two heavyweights in the F&B and technology industries; unveiling of the world's first cell-based fish maw from Avant Meats; be first in Asia to taste Good Idea – the new product from Oatly's founders, a sparkling water that balances blood sugar; try out the world's first molecular whiskey; and enjoy a special selection of Green Monday's picks of the latest protein-alternatives arriving on the consumer market, including the exclusive Asia launch of Beyond's new sausage patty. Both days of the Summit will also host the Food's Future Innovation Showcase – a handpicked selection of innovative companies representing some of the most promising developments on this front.
The Food's Future Summit is regarded as a "must-attend" event for those in the food space as well as consumers looking to better understand the world of food in a thought-provoking yet accessible format. Established on the underlying premise that food's future is everyone's future, the Summit continues to grow the conversation and community seeking to create a better future of food.
