BATH, ME, October 18, 2019 /24-7PressRelease/ -- SSM Educational Services (SSMES) today announced it has encountered unexpected funding support developments and will not open a school in Simi Valley, Calif.
"We have had such wonderful support from people in the community, including the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, the city of Simi Valley, and the Iceoplex," said Matt Ruby, the founding head of school for this new campus. "We were ready to go and it's unfortunate that we aren't able to complete our vision for a truly innovative educational experience in Simi Valley."
In May, SSMES introduced plans to open an all-boys Catholic day and boarding school for the beginning of the 2020-21 school year. The school was intended to replicate the prestigious college preparatory academic model and successes of the first Shattuck-St. Mary's (SSM) School established in Faribault, Minn. in 1858, and was met with great support and enthusiasm in the local communities.
In addition to the original school, SSM-Faribault, there is also an SSM school located in Johor Bahru, Malaysia. This school, SSM-Forest City, opened in 2018 for ages 3 through 12th grade.
SSMES continues to explore opportunities to partner on expanding the unique educational model of SSM in other parts of the world.
