NASHVILLE, TN, November 18, 2019 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Ms. Carolyn Watts is a highly experienced medical professional and has dedicated almost fifty years of service to the field, culminating in her role as a Clinical Nurse Specialist. As a Clinical Nurse Specialist and Certified Wound Ostomy Nurse, Ms. Watts delivers high quality and compassionate care across an impressive number of medical areas concentrating on wound care and breast cancer care but also including general surgery and surgical oncology. Carolyn works with medical students in the clinic and teaches as an adjunct faculty in the school of nursing in addition to participating in systems analysis and overall quality and clinical improvement.
Ms. Watts began her studies at the Olivet Nazarene University, where she obtained her Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree. Following this, she attended the University of Tennessee in Knoxville where she earned a master's degree, again in Nursing Science.
Ms. Watts currently works as a Clinical Nurse Specialist at the Vanderbilt University Medical Center. She is a faculty member in the School of Medicine and adjunct faculty at the School of Nursing. Since its inception in 1908, this prestigious establishment has achieved continued success with regards to the educational development of nursing professionals. It offers expertise in areas such as nursing administration, clinical care, case management, organizational strategic planning, project management, education (patient and professional), quality improvement, informatics, development of multidisciplinary collegial relationships and professional mentoring.
Keen to remain at the forefront of industry developments and knowledge, Ms. Watts is associated with a number of respected associations such as the National Association of Professional Women, Sigma Theta Tau and the Wound, Ostomy and Continence Nurses Society (WOCN®). In addition to this, Ms. Watts is a past President of the WOCN and continues her work with the Society currently on various committees and task forces.
Ms. Watts is also an esteemed author, having published several academic pieces. Her first was in 1985 entitled Surgical Treatment of Obesity in Journal of Southern Surgical Nurses Association. This was followed by A Study to Compare the Overall Effectiveness of Two Hydrocolloid Dressings on Partial Thickness Wounds in Ostomy Wound Management in 1988, Management of Problem Wounds in Journal of Urological Nursing in 1989, Reducing Pressure Ulcer Prevalence in an ICU Setting in Journal of Wound Ostomy Continence Nurses Society in 2007, and Identifying the Right Surface for The Right Patient at the Right Time: Generation and Content Validation of an Algorithm for Support Surface Selection In Journal of Wound Ostomy Continence Nurses Society in 2015.
Outside of her work commitments, Ms. Watts enjoys volunteering for the American Cancer Society as well as the March of Dimes and Alive Hospice, which she finds extremely rewarding. In addition to spending quality time with her loving children, Eric and Alli, Ms. Watts enjoys travelling, reading and sharing her knowledge through her consulting work.
Ms. Watts attributes her successes to date to her friend and mentor Ellen Keith, as well as to the late Dr. John L. Sawyers, who was her mentor and colleague for many years.
