"Achieving board certification in plastic surgery has been a long, challenging, but very rewarding journey," Dr. Cunningham said.
DENVER, CO, January 04, 2020 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Grossman | Capraro Plastic Surgery announced on Thursday that Dr. Teresa Cunningham has passed the final examination to become a diplomate of the American Board of Plastic Surgery (ABPS). Board certification is a rigorous process requiring six to eight years of residency, an optional year of fellowship, a year of case collection in private practice, and comprehensive oral and written examinations.
"Achieving board certification in plastic surgery has been a long, challenging, but very rewarding journey," Dr. Cunningham said. "I look forward to continuing my career as a board-certified plastic surgeon with the great team of doctors and staff at Grossman | Capraro Plastic Surgery."
Dr. Cunningham joined Grossman | Capraro Plastic Surgery as a highly qualified and experienced cosmetic surgeon. She graduated from medical school magna cum laude at The Ohio State University, followed by a residency in plastic and reconstructive surgery at the Wake Forest Baptist Health medical center in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
As a volunteer surgeon, Dr. Cunningham has traveled to Moldova to perform procedures through the oral and maxillofacial surgery and neurosurgery departments at the Nicolae Testemitanu University of Medicine and Pharmacy, and to Bolivia to volunteer performing surgeries at a pediatric burn center. She has also lectured at plastic surgery meetings throughout the country.
Dr. Cunningham discovered her passion for plastic surgery after witnessing the impact breast reconstruction had on a loved one diagnosed with breast cancer. She draws upon this personal experience to provide patients with high-quality, individualized care that emphasizes both cosmetic results and self-image.
ABPS certification "demonstrates a commitment to continuing education, assessment of knowledge, and practice improvement throughout the plastic surgeon's career." Achieving this credential is entirely voluntary.
The American Board of Plastic Surgery is the only organization recognized by the American Board of Medical Specialties as being able to certify doctors as specialists in the field of plastic surgery.
