AUGUSTA, GA, February 07, 2020 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Bluff Plantation (www.bluffplantation.com), a residential alcohol and drug addiction treatment facility recognized for excellence in addiction treatment by the Joint Commission, announced today that it will offer Recreation Therapy for its clients to improve physical and psychological health. Abby Mauldin, a graduate from Georgia State University with a Bachelors in Recreational Therapy and a Minor in Child and Family Development, will lead the program as Recreational Therapist.
Recreational Therapy is the purposeful use of evidence-based recreation programs to improve clients' physical and psychological health. It incorporates various leisure interventions including, but not limited to:
• Art
• Outdoor Activities (rock climbing, hiking, ropes course, etc.)
• Drama
• Sports
• Cooking
• Gardening
• Dance
• Music
"We are very excited to begin offering Recreational Therapy," said Rachel Ryan, Executive Director of Bluff Plantation. "We take a comprehensive approach to addiction treatment that combines expert medical care with evidence-based treatment modalities. By matching treatment programs, medications, and services to each person's particular needs, we offer the best chance for lifelong recovery."
The continuous use of various substances and alcohol over a long period of time gradually depletes Dopamine, a chemical responsible for sending feelings of pleasure to the brain. Using recreational therapy, Bluff teaches and provides clients with various recreational outlets that can provide those same feelings of pleasure in place of using toxic chemicals and/or alcohol.
