Ramez Al-Khayyat on Sustainability: "Sustainability, the Catchword of Today and Tomorrow"
DOHA, QATAR, February 07, 2020 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Corporate Sustainability, at Power International Holding (PIH) and its subsidiaries, represents an opportunity to apply, through diverse efforts, the four pillars of sustainability: environmental, social, human and economic factors across our industries and businesses of real estate development, housing, construction, foods, entertainment and hospitality.
Corporate Sustainability has become a catchword in the business world and became a real concern among investors who seek social good in addition to economic profit.
The UK Government Annual Report 2000 states that: "Sustainable development is more than just economic growth. The quality of growth matters as well as the quantity."
PIH understands sustainability as the process and actions through which we can avoid the depletion of natural resources, while at the same time preserving the quality of life in our community.
The group's sustainability vision is to maintain and improve the human capital in society, investing in environment, health and nutrition, and the economic well-being and protection of the community.
The state of Qatar is one of the leading countries in recognizing the significance of responsible business practices that have to do with sustainability. The government has taken extreme measures on industries to create sustainable projects with a low carbon footprint and minimum harm to the environment in addition to other active measures.
The United Nations (UN) put forth a set of Sustainable Development Goals as part of its 2030 sustainability strategy. This strategy was put forward to end poverty, create a safer environment, decrease in regulatory or strategic risk, cleaner supply chains, greater customer and employee loyalty and increase avenues for product innovation.
This will help firms in their efforts towards protecting the planet and ensuring that all people enjoy safety, peace and prosperity.
The UN 17 Sustainable Development Goals are:
1. No Poverty - Economic growth must be inclusive to provide sustainable jobs and promote equality.
2. Zero Hunger - The food and agriculture sector offer key solutions for development and is central for hunger and poverty eradication.

World governments have been encouraged to support sustainable practices and give out relevant information which, when flipped, means that businesses can use the chance to gain insights on potential governmental regulations and diktats. Around 193 governments have come together in support of UN's SDGs, which means businesses that commit to the goals will potentially be looked upon more favorably.
