/24-7PressRelease/ - Nashville, TN, April 19, 2008, Cynthia A. Fink, Pulmonary Vascular Program Coordinator at Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC), has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in all aspects of nursing and healthcare program management.
Ms. Fink has 24 years of experience in Pulmonary/Critical Care Medicine. It is her current expertise in overseeing case management, treating rare diseases including pulmonary arterial hypertension or high blood pressure in the lungs, and coordinating medical programs that enhance the important professional services offered by the Pulmonary Vascular Center at Vanderbilt. VUMC is a hospital, clinic and research center providing comprehensive services including medical education, patient care delivery and research in all aspects of healthcare. A much sought after expert in pulmonary vascular care, Ms. Fink often speaks to other university hospital settings, community physicians' offices, patient support groups and at national conferences about pulmonary arterial hypertension, patient management and treatment options available for this life-threatening and often fatal disease. She serves as a mentor for other nurses and healthcare professionals in her field, participating in the Mentor Program for the Pulmonary Hypertension Association (PHA), an international organization which was formed in 1987 to improve the lives of those affected by Pulmonary Hypertension (PH). It is the mission of the PHA to support physicians in their efforts to diagnose, treat, and ultimately find a cure for PH, and their goal in the interim is to provide hope for the PH community through support, education, advocacy and awareness. Ms. Fink is a strong supporter of the PHA, serving as the nurse liaison for the Middle Tennessee PHA Support Group and as the Ambassador for the PHA's Circle of Friends Campaign in 2007-2008. She along with the local chapter of the PHA raised almost $20,000 via a letter writing campaign to help support the efforts of the PHA. She received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing at the University of Evansville, Evansville, IN, in 1984 and achieved Critical Care RN certification shortly after she began her tenure at VUMC. Nominated for the Norma J. Shepherd Award for Excellence in Critical Care Nursing, Ms. Fink has also been recommended for Staff Nurse of the Year at Vanderbilt, having been nominated by her managers and peers for demonstrating consistent high quality nursing care delivery. Her strengths include outcomes tracking and analysis, best practice standards for care delivery and treatment algorithm development. She has been instrumental in furthering patient and family education needs by publishing a comprehensive 105-page patient education booklet called "A Patient's Guide to Understanding and Managing Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension". It is efforts like this that make Ms. Fink a leader in her field.
