"Even today, AstroWorld has a remarkable ability to bring people together!" explains Trahan.
SULPHUR, LA, August 04, 2020 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Executive Director of the Brimstone Historical Society in Sulphur, LA, Thom Trahan, announced today their Fall 2020 exhibit of "A Love Letter to AstroWorld: From SWLA." The museum will host the exhibit at the Henning Cultural Center in the Brimstone Museum Complex from September 3rd – October 15th, 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Monday – Friday and Saturdays, 10:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. Admission is free.
The exhibit is expected to feature:
• Souvenirs/Gift shop items from all eras of the park's history
• Maps of the park from various eras
• Early concepts of the park's design
• Articles from various major events in Astroworld history
• Signage and authentic pieces of various rides from the park
• Photos, stories and private collection artifacts
The idea about the exhibit came from Trahan and a colleague, Donald Hayes, Second VP of the Pearland Historical Society in Texas, as they were discussing the possibility of including artifacts in a popular annual exhibit at Brimstone called, "Chaos Theory" art show. The two then discovered they actually had plenty of material to put together an exhibit of its' own. "After I mentioned the exhibit to some of our locals, we triggered some strong emotions of nostalgia. Southwest Louisiana is but a couple of hours drive-time from Houston via I-10, so AstroWorld was always a quick, fun, family or friends getaway destination for many. For people in certain age groups, it still holds a very special place in our hearts and memories. Even today, AstroWorld has a remarkable ability to bring people together!" explains Trahan.
AstroWorld opened in 1968 and was a seasonally operated amusement park located in Houston, Texas, and was permanently closed in 2005. For additional information please visit our website www.brimstonemuseum.org or contact Thom Trahan at (337) 527-0357.
