WASHINGTON, DC, October 03, 2020 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The HUes of Blue event is JHUAN's signature fundraising event, and will include compelling stories from previous JHUAN scholarship recipients and performances from some of reggae's brightest stars. While the event will not be held at the preferred venue of the Jamaican Ambassador's residence in Maryland, JHUAN hopes to use the Zoom virtual platform to engage a broader audience of participants across the U.S., Jamaica and beyond. Guests are asked to wear their favorite hue of blue and will have the opportunity to network with students and other guests at their virtual table.
"While classes will be held remotely this year, Jamaican Howard University students are in need of tuition assistance and other support as they work towards graduation, embarking on careers, or further studies," says Don Christian, Chairman of JHUAN and partner at PWC. "If you love or are connected to Jamaica or to Howard University, we invite you to become part of the JHUAN community."
Tickets for the event are $75, and guests are encouraged to consider making additional donations to invest in the education of students who are in need of support and engagement. Proceeds from the event will go toward funding scholarships and tuition assistance for Jamaican Howard University students.
"Historically, Howard has been the university of choice for thousands of Jamaican nationals, many of whom have remained to work in the Washington metropolitan region," says Her Excellency Audrey Marks, Jamaica's Ambassador to the United States. "Those who returned to the island have done extremely well professionally."
Founded in 2018 by a group of Jamaican Howard University alumni, JHUAN serves the Jamaican student community at Howard University through scholarships, mentoring and career development. JHUAN has raised and disbursed over $110,000 worth of scholarships to exemplary scholars. For more information about JHUAN, visit jhuan.org.
As the first affinity group of its kind at Howard University, Jamaica Howard University Affinity Network aims to be the gold standard for future groups on campus. JHUAN builds upon a more than 100 year legacy of Jamaican nationals thriving at Howard then going on to pursue distinguished careers. JHUAN's goal is to increase the pipeline of Jamaican students that matriculate through Howard University. This goal will be accomplished by inspiring Jamaican students to pursue their dreams of higher education, providing them with the necessary resources, and engaging them in a community of Howard scholars working toward positively impacting the global community.
