ATLANTA, GA, October 30, 2020 /24-7PressRelease/ -- John Foy & Associates, one of Georgia's largest and most successful law firms, has awarded its 2020 Strong Arm Leukemia Scholarship to Claire Broadhead, 18, a first-year student at Stevenson University in Maryland. Miss Broadhead will receive $1,000 to help with college expenses.
Miss Broadhead was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia at age 9 and had a harrowing two and a half year medical journey that included life-threatening reactions and being medevaced to the hospital multiple times. Because of the disease and treatment, she developed Celiac Disease, hypothyroidism, and Type 1 Diabetes.
Miss Broadhead is studying nursing today and hopes to specialize in pediatric oncology so that she can offer children the comfort and care that her nurses gave her. "I knew at that time, that my calling was to do what they were doing. It was at that time, fourth grade, that I started preparing,'' Miss Broadhead wrote.
Miss Broadhead and her family reside in St. Mary's County in Maryland. Their community rallied when Miss Broadhead became ill, starting a charity soccer event, Claire's Cup, which raises funds for children facing a serious medical challenge. The Broadheads visit families at the Greater D.C. Ronald McDonald House. She is an example of survival and resilience.
John Foy & Associates established this scholarship to help students whose lives have been affected by leukemia, the most common cancer in children.
As a personal injury attorney firm, John Foy & Associates recognizes that some battles outside the courtroom are arduous and life-altering. This scholarship is just one way the firm supports its community.
