SALT LAKE CITY, UT, June 23, 2021 /24-7PressRelease/ -- LGBTQIA kids face a lot of struggles, which means they need a strong support system at home. Unfortunately, while many parents are supportive of who their children are, they lack the resources they need to help their children get through some of the toughest roadblocks. Elevations RTC wants to create a safe place for parents of LGBTQIA kids, which includes family therapy and parent support groups.
Every parent takes the news differently when their child is ready to come out as LGBTQIA, but the most important thing is to be there for your child at the end of the day. The Elevations RTC staff wants to help parents work through their feelings and have healthy discussions about their child and the LGBTQIA community.
One of the biggest concerns a young person has when they are ready to come out is how their parents and other close family members will take the news; how the family reacts to another member coming out as LGBTQIA is very important. So many young people fear that their parents may not love them anymore, or maybe even see them as weird or different.
Parent support groups are helpful because many parents aren't aware of how their actions and reactions are affecting their children. These group therapy sessions that Elevations RTC will be offering can help parents become the support system their LGBTQIA kid needs.
Many young people are worried about their families being broken up when they come out. This is especially true if one parent is more supportive than the other. It's completely natural to feel shocked or overwhelmed when your child comes out. This is a big life step, and parents are not alone if they are not sure how to handle the news.
LGBTQIA parent support groups are focused on giving the parents the resources they need to process the information in their own way so they can be strong for their child. When family members are there for one another, it can help keep everyone together. These groups are there to make sure families stay strong.
Unfortunately, many families have fallen apart because they didn't have the right level of support. Many people don't realize that it's not just the person who is LGBTQIA that needs help navigating their feelings. Many people in their lives need support as well in order to be there for them in the right way.
Parent support groups have helped many families find healthy solutions to the problems that were coming up in their lives. Since attending these groups, many parents have found new ways to have healthy affirming conversations with their children. It has made their relationships stronger and helped many families be there for one another.
Many families who have been struggling with staying strong after a child has come out could benefit from the therapy and support groups offered by Elevations RTC.
