Jenna Monroe Awarded the Thumbs Up Guys Scholarship from Miller, Dawson, Sigal, and Ward

    NORTH CHARLESTON, SC, September 21, 2021 /24-7PressRelease/ -- South Carolina law firm Miller, Dawson, Sigal, and Ward is proud to announce Jenna Monroe as a winner of its $1,000 Thumbs Up Guys scholarship. One of three winners selected, Monroe wrote an essay about setting up and volunteering at a makeshift soup kitchen for National Guard members who arrived in her hometown following a devastating hurricane.

What started as a "trial run" of Monroe's family providing small hot meals to soldiers became a community-wide effort to support those who sacrificed their time and safety to help others. "Food poured in as fast as we could distribute it," said Monroe in an interview.

Jenna Monroe's hometown of Myrtle Beach was devastated by the hurricane, though her family was fortunate enough to avoid serious damage to their home and property. Instead of simply breathing a sigh of relief, Monroe's first thoughts were to help those who weren't as lucky.

This is exactly the kind of attitude and response that Miller, Dawson, Sigal, and Ward look for in scholarship winners. Monroe summed up her experience as an opportunity to learn a basic life lesson she'll carry with her for the rest of her life. "I learned how to show someone how much they matter," she wrote.

Monroe also serves her community in other ways, always seeking opportunities to spark that personal connection. She volunteers at Joy Prom, which is a prom for special needs high school students who may be unable to attend their school's dance due to social anxiety or overstimulation.

In the fall, Monroe will attend Coastal Carolina University, where she plans to study Sustainability with a minor in Environmental Studies. Afterward, her plan is to pursue a law degree. With her enthusiasm for helping others and tireless work ethic, she would be a welcome addition to the South Carolina lawyer community.
