OKLAHOMA CITY, OK, November 15, 2021 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Dejah Monaé grew up listening to a wide variety of music: gospel, Go-Go, R&B, jazz… Influenced by all of it, the new Plugstar Entertainment artist isn't eager to be put into a box. Instead, she writes and sings whatever makes her feel good. "Music has always been part of my life; my family loved it — we played it all day long," the native of Landover, Maryland shares. However, "The music that I have done so far is more in the lane of R&B, soul, hip hop."
Last year, she joined forces with producer Saul Reel to release "Sex'd Up," a new single and video under a distribution deal with Stachehaus/Sony Orchard, and within months was considered "Who's Next" by New York City's Hot 97 FM. She's currently working on an EP and looking forward to going on tour.
"I'm so grateful to have music. It has gotten me through literally everything. Any emotion I feel can be expressed in a song. That alone has gotten me to where I am today," Monaé shares.
The vivacious performer with the dynamite smile describes herself as a singer, model, and entrepreneur. She learned to dream big while working during her youth in her mother's daycare center, as a hairdresser, and as a hookah girl. However, there was always music — and faith — in her soul. Singing at school and in the church choir lead to performing in bands and writing poetry. Her goal remains to give hope and encouragement to others while continuing her own path of personal growth.
Now based in Atlanta, Monaé confides that, "I like to write to myself. I tell myself all the time that I have no clue where I would be if it wasn't for sound."
While she's eager to share her energy and talent with the world at large, Ms. Monaé is inspired to first gift it to smaller setting like a wedding. "Passion, love, and intimacy are a big part of my music," she explains, adding, "which will be the same for the places I love to perform at."
