ATLANTA, GA, November 30, 2021 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The Atlanta Community Food Bank teamed up with area media for the 23rd annual Thanksgiving Dish. The event took place on November 23 at the Renaissance Atlanta Waverly Hotel & Convention Center, where the Food Bank and its partner agencies had the opportunity to celebrate the true meaning of the season— giving back. The organization reunited with the hotel's Executive Chef, Rohan Leach, to lead the team in cooking and preparing 3,600 Thanksgiving meals that will be distributed across its 29 county service area.
For the past 23 years, the Food Bank has been joined by local journalists and other guests to provide Thanksgiving meals for the families, children and seniors who rely on Georgia's pantries and food service programs for nutrition. This year, a variety of Atlanta media including 11Alive, CBS46, Fox 5 and WSBTV joined forces to give back this holiday season.
"Last year, we had to modify our Thanksgiving Dish due to COVID-19. We were fortunate to be able to pivot and find a creative way to continue the tradition despite the challenges of the times," said Kyle Waide, President and CEO of the Atlanta Community Food Bank. "We are delighted to have been able to host our signature event again this year and to team up with our incredible partners at the Renaissance Atlanta Waverly Hotel & Convention Center. Thanks to their generous support and all who are involved, we are able to provide meals for our neighbors in need this holiday season."
The 2021 Thanksgiving Dish benefited more than a dozen of the Food Bank's partner agencies who hosted families for Thanksgiving dinner.
Traditional holiday staples made up the menu, including more than 1,700 pounds of turkey breast, 3,600 dinner rolls, 70 gallons of giblet gravy, 288 cans of cranberry sauce, 600 pounds of green beans and more than 435 pumpkin pies.
