South County Alliance to Host Forum for Prince George's County Maryland Council District 8 Seat

    FORT WASHINGTON, MD, December 14, 2021 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The South County Alliance (SCA) will host a virtual candidates forum to fill a recently vacated seat for Council District 8. The six confirmed candidates seeking the seat are Edward Burroughs, III, Sidney Gibson, Tony Knotts, Jerry Mathis, Marjorie Smith, and Vernon Wade.

The event will take place on Tuesday, December 14, 2021, from 7:00 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. The Special Primary Election will take place on January 4, 2022, from 7:00 a.m. until 8.00 p.m.

The Special Primary Early Voting will take place on December 27 through December 30, 2021, from 10:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. and from 12:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. on Sunday.

Given the short time frame for the upcoming election, SCA hopes that many county residents will attend the forum to learn more about the candidates seeking the County Council District 8 seat prior to casting their ballots. Candidates will discuss a broad range of topics, including their Vision, Leadership, and concerns related to Education, Transportation, Quality of Life, and Public Safety.

The South County Alliance consists of a broad group of associations and organizations. Their goal for this forum is to educate voters about candidates' views on issues and stimulate voter interest and participation on January 4, 2021, primary election. Organizations participating in this year's forum are: Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Brooke Manor Civic Association, Camp Spring's Civic Association, Greater South County Coalition for Absolute Progress, Indian Head Highway Action Area Action Council, Riverbend Citizens Association, South County Economic Development Association/ South County Institute for Economic Development, Inc., Southlawn Citizens Association, and Tantallon Citizens Association.
