Mend Health Launches Pilot Program for New, Integrated Approach to Managing Chronic Pain

Program combines six elements to take on physical, emotional, mental toll of persistent pain

"When I trained as an Olympic figure skater, I received extraordinary care encompassing the physical, mental, and emotional aspects of pain. My mission is to make this approach accessible to everyone"

NEW YORK, NY, December 18, 2021 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Mend Health, a healthcare start-up founded by former Olympic figure skater and Wharton MBA Tamar Katz, today announced the launch of a new, integrated therapy program aimed at easing the suffering of people with chronic pain.

The program blends six components — doctor-guided tutorials, tailored exercise programs, coaching, peer support, nutrition, and sleep management — to help participants manage their chronic pain holistically.

Candidates for the program's selective, two-month pilot phase can apply through the Mend Health web page. Applications will be screened for a range of criteria, including type and duration of pain, to ensure an appropriate fit for the program.

Mend Health's founder and CEO Tamar Katz said, "When I trained and competed as an elite figure skater, I received extraordinary therapy for my many injuries. My recovery regimen addressed every physical, mental, and emotional aspect of pain. I founded Mend Health to make the same kind of integrated pain management accessible to everyone."

About the Mend Health Program

Mend Health's integrated approach to pain management includes a psychological toolkit, exercise as medicine, and support from both professionals and peers.

Chronic pain is often coupled with stress, anxiety, and other negative feelings. Over time, this can create a negative feedback loop that intensifies the pain. Mend Health's psychological toolkit helps break this cycle by teaching practical skills to better cope with pain — and limit the negative impact it makes.

To manage pain flare-ups, the right exercises are critically important. Mend Health's exercise-as-medicine element is designed to help program participants overcome fear of movement, regain enjoyment from physical activity, and maximize what their bodies can do day to day.

Because chronic pain inhibits social activity, it is often isolating, which can lead to withdrawal or even depression. Mend Health's supportive, constructive community, led by Mend coaches who know how to manage chronic pain, help program participants feel connected and supported by others going through the same journey.

In addition to Ms. Katz, Mend Health's leadership team and advisory board include a rheumatologist and pain doctor, physical therapists and exercise physiologists, a psychiatrist, and a team of social workers who also live and manage persistent pain.
