From internal combustion engines to electric vehicles, advancing into future mobility.
In October, the organizing committee gave up the word "Motor," a symbol of internal combustion engines, and renamed it the Seoul Mobility Show to respond to carbon neutrality and transform it into an exhibition centered on future means of transportation. Accordingly, various electric vehicles and mobility technologies were unveiled at the 2021 Seoul Mobility Show.
There were 10 automotive manufacturers that participated in the exhibition. With a total of 24 new cars unveiled, many booths had put electric cars as their main models.Kia Motors unveiled the world's first EV, hybrid vehicles from 'The All-New KIA NIRO', while Mercedes-Benz and Genesis composed all submission vehicles with electric vehicles. In particular, eco-friendly cars accounted for more than half (51%) of all vehicles submitted this year, up about 17% points from the 2019 Seoul Motor Show.
In addition, Hyundai Motor Company formed a separate robotics park, including the autonomous IONIC 5 jointly developed with Motional and E-GMP, a platform exclusively for electric vehicles, and introduced various future mobility such as "Spot," a four-legged walking robot, and a two-legged upright walking robot.
In addition, SK Telecom exhibited the Volvo XC60 equipped with the automobile-only AI platform "NUGU Auto," while SEOYON E-HWA submitted "MUG" that combines physical switches on the auto center fascia display panel, while KAIST and Ajou Motor College submitted flying cars.In addition, small electric vehicle companies such as DPECO, MASTA, EV KMC, and Daechang Motors, as well as participating companies in the mobility field, also unveiled their various mobility technologies and products.
Laying the foundation for fostering an ecosystem of technological innovation.
The organizing committee plans to shift the Seoul Mobility Show from an automotive-based exhibition to a technology exhibition for technological innovation in the future. To this end, the 2021 Seoul Mobility Show promoted the Seoul Mobility Awards, a business agreement with KAIST, and attracting mobility-related research institutes.
First of all, the Seoul Mobility Awards was first organized this year for startups, small and medium-sized companies, and large companies to promote technological innovation in the mobility sector by discovering and awarding innovative mobility companies. The grand prize of this award, which was divided into a total of four categories, was selected as Hyundai MOBIS' "e-corner module. The "e-corner module" is a wheel module that integrates driving, braking, steering, and suspension functions necessary for vehicles to move and is considered a key component of future mobility in the future. Furthermore, the grand prize was selected for •blueshark's high-performance electric two-wheeled vehicle "R1 Lite" (Eco-friendly Mobility Division) • JMJ Korea's "Semiconductor Package for EVs Using SiC" (New Mobility Division) •SK Telecom's AI platform "NUGU Auto" (Smart Mobility Division).
In addition, the organizing committee signed a strategic business agreement with KAIST to seek the development of the mobility industry in the future through industry-academic cooperation.Through this, both organizations operated a technology exchange meeting to match KAIST's research personnel with participating companies in need of technical cooperation during the 2021 Seoul Mobility Show exhibition and set up booths and conferences to display KAIST's mobility technologies such as self-driving cars.
The organizing committee plans to further expand the participation of research institutes and universities such as Korea Automotive Technology Institute, Korea Electronics Technology Institute, and the Korea Semiconductor Industry Association, so that industry-academic research can play a role in developing the mobility industry.
Organizing Committee (KAMA), said, "The automobile industry is facing a major transformation period, such as motorization, autonomous driving, and the emergence of new mobility in internal combustion engines, and technological innovation is at the center." In line with these changes, the Seoul Mobility Show also plans to develop in the direction of promoting technological innovation in the mobility industry ecosystem, and in particular, it will aim to serve as a platform for industry-academia research to interact with each other for technological development, he said.
