"It has been a dream of mine to help minority groups access better health care and meet daily needs."
CHICAGO, IL, January 19, 2022 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Nursing is at the heart of healthcare, and many nurses are the direct link between patients and treatment. As part of its work in the personal injury field, Pintas & Mullins Law Firm has seen firsthand the vital role that nurses play in helping injured people recover. The firm is proud to award its $2,500 Future Nurses Scholarship to Melanie Watabe.
Watabe is a current student at Brigham Young University, where she recently changed her major to nursing. "I hope to graduate with a BSN in April 2022," she told representatives of Pintas & Mullins Law Firm.
To Watabe, nursing is about offering compassionate care. "Nursing is a versatile field that offers many opportunities to heal individuals and communities in powerful ways," Watabe wrote in her winning essay.
In fact, Watabe plans to spend her time after graduation finding innovative ways to bring healing to people who truly need it.
"It has been a dream of mine to help minority groups access better health care and meet daily needs," she writes. "Through my experience as a minority in my community, I felt that I could use what I learn as a nurse to help those in other parts of the world to receive the care that they need and to provide the resources that can make those changes."
For now, Watabe is busy studying to achieve her goals. When she isn't in class, she also engages in cultural activities for the university's Japan Club and volunteers with a group that assists children with special needs in creative exercise.
Watabe says that her future practice most likely will involve geriatric care as well as international nursing. She is also interested in providing healthcare solutions to at-risk communities, "especially helping those people with language or cultural barriers," she says.
