GARDEN GROVE, CA, January 22, 2022 /24-7PressRelease/ -- We are happy to announce that this year, MIE Solutions has selected five students to be the recipients of the 2021 MIE Solutions Scholarship! This scholarship awarded $500 to each student. The selected students followed the requirements laid out on our website and wrote an essay on themselves, their college experience in computer science and/or engineering, as well as their goals for the future within the field of technology.
These five recipients are very deserving of this scholarship, and we hope that their passion for computer science and engineering takes them to incredible places throughout their careers. Below, we have included a summary of each recipient's essay, so please take a moment to read about these amazing students and their educational and career goals!
MEREDITH MCGEE
As part of the engineering program at Texas A&M, Meredith intends to work on improving the reliability of artificial intelligence systems. Her inspirations are fueled by the works of AI researchers, Janelle Shane, and Pedro Domingos. Meredith is also a member of the Engineering Honors Program and intends on participating in the TAMIDS Data Science Trainee Program, which will allow her to receive mentorship for her post-graduate plan.

RUTH HAMMOND
With a major in Mechanical Engineering and a minor in Computer Science, Ruth has dedicated herself to pursuing a career software engineering and Artificial Intelligence. Ruth is a member of multiple organizations, including RHIT Robotics, the National Society of Black Engineers, and Chi Omega. Throughout her college career, she has been able to intern at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (in the field of High Performance Computing, or HPC), at a DoD laboratory (as an Algorithms, Prototyping, and Development intern), and as a Data Science intern at Johnson & Johnson. She will be traveling to Stockholm Sweden to study AI & HPC courses while conducting research at KTH University.

OTABEK MAVLONOV
Upon immigrating to the United States as a young boy, Otabek's family encouraged him to study hard and find passion in what he was learning. He began learning programming on a small computer called a Raspberry Pi and has continued to pursue his interest in computer engineering. At Texas A&M, he was interviewed and accepted as a Student Technician for the Information Technology department. Otabek also became a member of the Aggie Coding Club and the Texas A&M Hackathon team.

CHARLOTTE HOUGH
With the ultimate goal of being a Database Administrator after graduating, Charlotte is studying computer science at Park University and learning the ins and outs of JavaScript, SQL, and multiple coding languages. Though she struggled with math in high school, Charlotte now enjoys mathematics and came to the conclusion that it's not always about being naturally good at math, but about practicing and finding the patterns that exist in functions and formulas.

JOSE MORALES
From a young age, Jose found an interest in computer science when he had the dream of creating video games. After some exploration of all that's available in the computer science field, he has ultimately decided to pursue a career as a Data Scientist. His experience in college, so far, has him excited about pursuing classes and, eventually, a Master's in Data Science. Along with his Computer Science classes, Jose is also taking courses in engineering and Chinese. Throughout his college experience, he has been working with an academic advisor to better understand what is expected of him and the best path toward a promising future in technology.
