Former Carolina Panther, Community Leaders Bring Fresh Perspectives to the Muggsy Bogues Family Foundation Board of Directors

    CHARLOTTE, NC, February 14, 2022 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The Muggsy Bogues Family Foundation (MBFF) has voted in six new board members for 2022. These board members were selected because of their leadership abilities, their strong connection to the Charlotte community and the mission of the MBFF.

Former Carolina Panther and current Stewardship and Scholarship Administrator at Charlotte Latin School, Kurt Coleman brings a breadth of experience in the nonprofit sector. He is a co-founder of two non-profit organizations, Uplifting Athletes at Ohio State and Coleman4ACure, and he actively gives back to the Charlotte community.

Angelique Gaines is a Research Associate at the UNC Charlotte Urban Institute with a passion for social well-being, economic opportunity, education and youth development, civic engagement, and housing. With eight years of experience in research, evaluation and community engagement, she is an advocate for social change in her community.

Julie Knafelz has extensive experience in the healthcare sector working with underserved populations. Not only is she a Registered Nurse, Certified Rehabilitation Counselor and Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor, Julie brings more than a decade of experience volunteering within Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools.

Vital to Charlotte's financial growth, Joe Martinez is the Assistant Vice President and Financial Center Manager at Fifth Third Bank. He assisted the financial institution in its growth initiative in Charlotte, opening the first "Denovo" Financial Center in the Charlotte community in December 2019. He is also a board member of Above and Beyond Students, an organization that provides complimentary tutoring services to underserved areas in Charlotte.

Gene Parker, Jr. is an accomplished Information Technology Executive with a wide influence in his corporate and community roles. His career has spanned positions at IBM, eBay, Belk, Premier Healthcare, and now at Novant Health. Gene is also involved in volunteering and mentoring within his fraternity, Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Carolinas.

As a leader in education and the Charlotte community, Dr. Fahnie Stewart Shaw holds a vast list of achievements. She is Chief Operations Officer of the Urban League of the Central Carolinas and was recently recognized as one of Charlotte Ledger's 40 over 40. She has been honored for her work in educational leadership, development, process improvement, community engagement and applied research.
