"A woman's intuition is better than man's. Nobody knows anything, really, you know and a woman can guess a good deal nearer than a man." Mark Twain The Gilded Age
CHICAGO, IL, February 22, 2022 /24-7PressRelease/ -- When Bestselling Author William Hazelgrove wrote a book on Cassie Chadwick a woman who lived on millions simply by claiming to be the illeigimate daughter of Andrew Carnegie, he saw it as a story that most people had never heard of in an era that most people didnt care about. That all changed with the HBO show THE GILDED AGE. "I had people coming up to me and saying, well you really timed this one," Hazelgrove said in a recent interview. "The truth is I had no idea this show even existed even though I am a huge Downton Abby fan and Julian Fellowes was involved...still it wasn't until the show was out that someone told me about it."
Greed in the Gilded Age was released on March 15th just after two episodes had aired of THE GILDED AGE. The prepublication reviews in Publishers Weekly, Booklist and Library Journal had been very good with Publishers Weekly doing a feature as well. "Now, I never had a feature on one of my books before it came out so I thought that was because this was a woman who really beat the one percent at their own game at a time when women didnt even have the vote...but maybe Publishers Weekly knew something I didn't," Hazelgrove continued.
In a crowded book market any little bit of publicity can help and the popularity of THE GILDED AGE has pushed people to look for other tales of this era of greed and opulence. "I think the show sparks peoples curiosity that there was this time where people made millions of untaxed dollars when America was becoming an industrial colossus and that people like Cassie Chadwick who came from nothing became wealthy overnight...of course saying you are Andrew Carnegies daughter is a brilliant con...but this was an age of brilliant cons, it was the Gilded Age."
