New Book on Con Woman is "Inventing Anna" of the Gilded Age

Greed in the Gilded Age, The Brilliant Con of Cassie Chadwick is a book by Bestselling Author William Hazelgrove and was just released on February 15 by Rowman and Littlefield. Usually books have to make their way for people to take notice but two shows hit the screen at the same time that have made marketing the story of a con woman who took millions by declaring her father to be Andrew Carnegie. HBO's" The Gilded Age" tells the story of robber barons of the Andrew Carnegie class and has set off an intense interest in the Gilded Age.

But the Second show "Inventing Anna" released by Netflix has a direct tie in to The Brilliant Con of Cassie Chadwick. Both tell the story of a young woman who remakes herself to pass herself off as a fabulously rich person who people should loan her money. Anna Delvey poses as a young socialite in Manhattan who gets bankers to lend her millions on the belief her father is wealthy and will pay them all back. Cassie Chadwick is a drifter from Canada who passes herself off as a rich heiress whose father is actually Andrew Carnegie and gets millions in loans from unsuspecting bankers. The difference is in dates. Cassie Chadwicks story takes place in 1904. Anna Delvey's takes place in 2020.

But the story is the same. Cassie Chadwicks story ended with the trial of the century where Carnegie had to testify. Anna Delvey...well the story is still unfolding.
