Footage Foundation Hosts Anti-Slavery and Human Trafficking Experts at a Free Webinar For Volunteers and NGOs Working With Displaced People in Ukraine

    NEW YORK, NY, March 15, 2022 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Humanitarian crises worsen any existing trafficking situations due to decreased ability for mobility between countries, a strain on existing support networks, difficulties in communication, and more. Human trafficking was already a concern in Ukraine with more than 1.4 million people internally displaced due to conflict in eastern Ukraine and the pandemic, in the past 2 years.

To raise awareness and protect those who are most vulnerable, Footage Foundation is hosting a free Zoom webinar, Identification and Protection from Trafficking in Humanitarian Settings: A Brief Introduction on Tuesday, 15th March at 3pm GMT (5pm Ukraine and 11am EST). Dr. Aidan McQuade, former Executive Director of anti-trafficking NGO Anti-Slavery International will give an introduction to trafficking, vulnerabilities, warning signs, and protective measures.

"Human trafficking has always been intrinsic to war," says Dr. Aidan McQuade. "Humanitarian professionals must be aware of the risks if they have any hope of preventing further exploitation of those who have already been impoverished by violence."

The webinar, which will last approximately 40 minutes, is free to any individuals, team members from volunteer organizations and non-governmental organizations working with displaced people and those left behind to help identify and understand the dangers and provide support, information and advice. Guest experts from The Mara Partners, Verite, and Free the Slaves will also be on hand to offer additional insights.

Aidan McQuade is a writer and independent human rights consultant. He was director of Anti-Slavery International from 2006 to 2017. Prior to that he worked extensively in development and humanitarian operations, including from 1996 to 2001 leading Oxfam GB's emergency responses to the civil war in Angola. Aidan is a recognised expert on forced labor and trafficking. In recent years he has focused on trafficking in humanitarian crises, including those in Bangladesh and Myanmar.
