"Justice for our veterans, their families, and the community has been put off for too long."
JACKSONVILLE, NC, May 06, 2022 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Military veterans, service members, civilians, and their families could soon be able to sue for devastating injuries they suffered from exposure to contaminated drinking water at the Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune over a 34-year period.
Passage of the Camp Lejeune Justice Act of 2022 would enable victims to file lawsuits demanding compensation for illnesses and injuries linked to the toxic water, including several forms of cancer, adverse birth outcomes, Parkinson's disease, and more.
The Law Offices of John Drew Warlick, P.A., a personal injury law firm in Jacksonville, NC, plans to represent clients hurt by exposure to Camp Lejeune's water.
"Justice for our veterans, their families, and the community has been put off for too long," says attorney John Drew Warlick Jr. "Seeing this bill become law would finally give them the power to assert their rights after all they have done for our country."
Who Is Eligible?
The proposed legislation would allow anyone exposed to the contaminated water at Camp Lejeune between Aug. 1, 1953 and Dec. 31, 1987 to file an injury claim in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of North Carolina. Historically, many lawsuits were barred due to North Carolina's 10-year statute of repose, which prevented victims from taking legal action if more than 10 years had passed since their toxic exposure.
Toxic Water at Camp Lejeune
Exposure to trichloroethylene (TCE), perchloroethylene (PCE), benzene, and vinyl chloride in the water at Camp Lejeune led the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to conclude that Marines, Naval workers, civilians, residents, infants, and children are at a greater risk of developing diseases such as:
• Kidney cancer
• Multiple myeloma
• Leukemias
• Adverse birth conditions
• Other health problems
The U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs also names eight presumptive conditions linked to toxic water exposure at Camp Lejeune, including bladder cancer, liver cancer, non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, aplastic anemia, and other myelodysplastic syndromes.
Once the bill is signed into law, people will have two years from the law passing to file a toxic water claim. If you or a loved one got sick after exposure to contaminated water at Camp Lejeune ― even in utero ― a personal injury attorney from The Law Offices of John Drew Warlick, P.A. can review your case and develop a strategic plan to pursue maximum compensation for your losses now.
