World Peace Works Through HWPL's International Peace Youth Group (IPYG)

    HOUSTON, TX, May 09, 2022 /24-7PressRelease/ -- President Man-hee Lee of the Heavenly Culture, World Peace and Restoration of Light (HWPL) continues his work of peace throughout the world through youth all around the globe. He stated that the work of peace can be "actually achieved" through the efforts of young people who want to see a better and more dignified world where there is no conflict or war.

An example of the work of peace carried out by youth in Tunisia had to do with the 'Arab Spring' uprising that swept the Middle East and North Africa in 2011. Although it is seen as a rare success in democratization in the Middle East, political instability continues due to severe economic difficulties and political conflicts. Tired of decades of chaos, Tunisian youths desperately called for peace. In response to this, the International Peace Youth Group (IPYG), an organization affiliated with HWPL, presented the answer to peace in Tunisia and set out to find a way to implement it with the youth.

On April 7th, 2018, the Peace Walk event was held at the Monastir Art Square in Tunisia, gathering 2,000 participants. "We are a family in peace, and when we cry for peace, the world will be full of love and happiness," said Belchier Selme, the Masterpieces Tunisia Monastir Group Head said.

On March 3 of the following year, a peace letter event supporting enactment of HWPL's Declaration of Peace and Cessation of War (DPCW) was held at the Nawol Citizens and Development Democracy Center. With four groups in attendance, Fatmajedidi Hamamet, head of the Youth Performance Group, said, "Everyone liked and supported the DPCW and I think now is the time to not just think about how to achieve peace, but to achieve it through practical activities and measures such as the DPCW." He added, "I realized the importance of spreading a culture of peace."

Another example of the work of the IPYG is in Thailand involving the recent anti-government protests. The protests, led by young people, are calling for political change, including reform of the monarchy, which is typically considered taboo in Thailand. Thai youth are also very interested in building fundamental peace in their own country.

On July 14, 2019, more than 2,000 people attended the 'Peace Walk in Commemoration of the 6th Anniversary of the Declaration of World Peace' held at the Islamic National University in Bangkok, Thailand. Zulada Suawang, Senior Assistant Principal of the Thai Islamic National University, who participated in the event, said, "The students prepared the peace event with shining eyes, and I was moved by the way peace seemed to come to the students' hearts when they held the event. In April 2018, a Legislate Peace project was held in Krabi with the theme of 'Let's raise awareness of youth'. Worrarit Burinkull, CEO of YEDO, said, "It was a good time to think about peace."

Previously, HWPL visited Thailand on its 5th peace tour in 2013 and held a meeting with representatives of international youth peace groups in major cities to emphasize the importance of the youth peace movement. At that time, HWPL President Man-hee Lee, who was invited to a conference to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Victory in Thailand held at the World Fellowship of Buddhists (WFB) hall, appealed to 300 Buddhist leaders from around the world to join the movement for peace. He appealed to young people to work on peace together by giving a lecture at the Youth Peace Seminar held at Mahachunlalongkorn University in Thailand.

HWPL is a non-governmental organization registered with the Seoul Metropolitan Government of the Republic of Korea. It is associated with the UN Department of Global Communications (DGC) and in Special Consultative Status with the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC).
