"When you have something good, magical, and brilliant, you push through every obstacle. It was worth the fight."
NEW YORK, NY, May 30, 2022 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Jeannette Bayardelle, a New York native with an international following, builds on a series of influential roles with a roof-raising performance in the theatrical reimagining of Bob Dylan music, Girl from the North Country, itself a Tony® nominee this year for Best Musical.
"Receiving a Tony nomination this season means so much. And we received seven! We've been fortunate to weather the many storms the pandemic threw our way. When you have something good, magical, and brilliant, you push through every obstacle. It was worth the fight."
No stranger to center stage on Broadway, Bayardelle was featured in the revival of Hair and starred in The Color Purple. She originated the role of Celie in the latter production's first national tour, for which she received an NAACP Award for Best Lead Actress in a Musical.
She is also the first Broadway actress to write the book, music and lyrics for, and star in, her own musical. Shida premiered Off-Broadway and just before the pandemic had a successful run in London. The American Repertory Theater in Cambridge and The West Angeles Theater in Los Angeles also mounted the musical, based on a true story of Bayardelle's childhood best friend.
"I am inspired by those who not only act but also create," Bayardelle says. "I have always been an advocate for participating in the creative process of art. There are so many stories that need to be told." With that mission in mind, Bayardelle developed, wrote and stars in a new web series I Take Thee Zoe and plans to widen distribution.
The star revered for her brilliant, blockbuster voice has performed in over fifty countries throughout Africa, Asia, Europe, North America, and the Caribbean. Her story has been spotlighted with features in magazines and appearances on CNN, Good Morning America, CBS News, and The Tonight Show, among others.
Recently, the Bronx-born Bayardelle's passion for financial literacy in the arts led her to develop an online, animated, musical, introduction to investing, Broadway to Wall Street. "Many want to be a part of the stock market conversation but don't have the stomach or patience. This makes it palatable, retainable and fun."
Now the actor-singer-creator-writer-producer and newly-minted Tony nominee has set her sights on film, TV, and digital platforms. "I'm excited about the possibilities the future holds, and eager to meet new collaborators and reach new communities."
