gluECO Adhesives Develops Biobased & Sustainable Adhesive

    ASHBURNHAM, MA, June 07, 2022 /24-7PressRelease/ -- gluECO Adhesives, LLC announced today that it has entered into an exclusive agreement with Purdue University to develop a biobased and sustainable commercial adhesive. All ingredients in the adhesive are Generally Recognized as Safe (GRAS) by the US-FDA and the adhesives are recyclable, compostable, and biodegradable.

gluECO Adhesive's products will be available in several formulations. The chemistry can be adjusted for strength (paper to "super" glue), flexibility, and performance in extreme ambient conditions such as high or low temperature, high moisture, and high vibration. In addition, the product can be used as a polymeric binder for composite materials.

The adhesive formulation is based on Zein, the primary protein of corn, which has a native adhesive quality. In addition, the adhesive products inherit many of the useful qualities of Zein, including providing a highly effective oxygen and water barrier, and, as a natural polymer, it can form a superior film, as well as be molded, extruded or spun into filaments. It can also be crosslinked with a wide variety of materials, including antimicrobials, colors, and scents. gluECO has entered into an exclusive manufacturing agreement with FloZein Products, the only Zein manufacturer in North America.
