First Flight High School Senior Awarded Community Service Scholarship

    KITTY HAWK, NC, June 10, 2022 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Seaside Vacations and Coldwell Banker Seaside Realty are pleased to announce Wes Rhodes, a graduating senior at First Flight High School, as the recipient of the Inaugural Seaside Cares Community Service Scholarship. Rhodes will receive a $500 scholarship in recognition of his volunteer service and ongoing commitment to the Outer Banks community.

"I am sincerely honored to have been awarded your Seaside Cares Scholarship," says Rhodes. "Thank you for your generosity which will allow me to continue to pursue my desire to be a biomedical engineer. I am very excited to continue my education in the fall at North Carolina State University and I am extremely thankful to have received your thoughtful gift."

Over the past several years, Wes Rhodes has participated in a wide variety of community service projects and volunteer activities, including work with GAIN/Global Aid Network through the Kitty Hawk United Methodist Church Youth Group, Better Beaches/Outer Banks Beach Nourishment, the Outer Banks Hotline, local hurricane relief efforts, and Samaritan's Purse/Operation Christmas Child, to name a few. Rhodes credits his work with OBX Dare Challenge as being one of the most impactful days of his life, stating that "it made me realize every small act of kindness is so vitally important in changing our world for the better."

Rhodes spent the last two years of high school triple enrolled at the North Carolina School of Science and Math, College of the Albemarle, and First Flight High School, graduating with a 4.6GPA and competing as a three-sport high school athlete and travel soccer player. He plans to attend NC State University in the fall as part of NC State's and UNC Chapel Hill's joint Biomedical Engineering program where he hopes to work with technology that will enrich the lives of individuals with prosthetic limbs and/or physical disabilities.

The Seasides Care Community Service Scholarship is an annual scholarship awarded by Seaside Cares, a charitable giving campaign of Seaside Vacations and Coldwell Banker Seaside Realty that contributes to the enrichment of the Outer Banks and other areas in the fields of community, relief, environment, and veterans. Recipients are selected based on their community involvement, dedication to work for charitable causes, and future goals and interests that demonstrate a desire to give back to the community.
