Gwinnett Unity Project's 3rd Annual Juneteenth Cultural Celebration Returns to Rabbit Hill Park, SATURDAY, June 18th

    DACULA, GA, June 10, 2022 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The Gwinnett Unity Project, in partnership with Collective Twenty Three, Posh Cares, Help for Healthcare Professionals, Gwinnett Cares, and Core, returns to Gwinnett County's Rabbit Hill Park (400 Rabbit Hill Road, Dacula, GA 30019) on Saturday, June 18, 2022 from 3-7pm. This annual Live Healthy Gwinnett is a commemoration of African-American emancipation. In addition, it brings our community together for a fun-filled, family friendly gathering, inclusive of an outdoor wellness clinic with Covid-19 vaccines and various health screenings.

The astonishing number of cop killings and non-guilty court proceedings were overwhelming. This FREE celebration at Rabbit Hill Park will also feature the highly anticipated cuisine from Scrum-did-dly-ump-tious, games, and music. Members of the Juneteenth 2022 host committee will be onsite to provide information and answer questions.

Juneteenth is the oldest known celebration of the ending of slavery in the United States. On June 19, 1865, General Gordon Granger announced that slaves in Texas were free by order of the President of the United States. The announcement came two and a half years after President Lincoln's Emancipation Proclamation - which had become official January 1, 1863. Although celebrated throughout the U.S. since 1865, Juneteenth has been more widely observed since the Civil Rights Movement, providing a platform for the promotion of diversity and an opportunity for education about the sacrifices and challenges endured by enslaved Americans in their struggle for freedom. The Juneteenth holiday achieved federal recognition on the 17th of June 2021, when President Biden signed the Juneteenth National Independence Day Act, establishing the 19th of June as a federal holiday to commemorate the end of slavery in the United States. The recognition of the holiday further reaffirmed the nation's willingness to own up to its transgressions, as well as its desire to chart a new course towards inclusion and freedom for all people.
