Ambient Edge Students Affected By Cancer Scholarship Awarded To Sandra Frenia

Sandra Frenia wins Students Affected by Cancer Scholarship from Ambient Edge.

"Having cancer and being a caregiver to someone with cancer changed my perspective on what's important in life. I want to be a good example for my children and teach them the value of good health."

HENDERSON, NV, August 23, 2022 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Ambient Edge is pleased to announce that Sandra Frenia has won our Students Affected by Cancer Scholarship. Sandra was diagnosed with GIST (G.I Stromal Tumor) in 2016 and was subsequently diagnosed with a genetic disorder, Neurofibromatosis. Her son was first diagnosed with Neurofibromatosis in 2007 at the age of two. Frenia wrote her winning essay about the way that her and her sons cancer diagnosis changed her life and the impact of being a patient as well as a caregiver.

"Having cancer and being a caregiver to someone with cancer changed my perspective on what's important in life. It has taught me to let the little things go and to be present in the moment, for you never know if you'll get another moment. I started paying more attention to what I put in, and on my body, and what I feed my family. I now am more aware of how I react to external triggers, and I've developed a daily self-care routine. I try to surround myself with happy and positive people. I want to be a good example for my children and teach them the value of good health."

Sandra's story shows the resiliency of all mothers and cancer survivors. Caring for her son the last 15 years has meant frequent visits to the children's hospital. During this time, she reconfirmed her dreams of becoming a nurse. Starting school while her son was receiving treatments or undergoing one of his three brain surgeries seemed impossible. The pandemic gave her time to research potential pathways of pursuing her dreams and led to her being accepted into the Associates Degree Nursing Program at Bucks County Community College.

We spoke with Sandra regarding her winning essay and to see how her and her son were doing.

"My son sees a number of specialists at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, and we just graduated to six-month MRI's. He was going every three months for years. His last scan in June was a big deal because it was stable. He finished his last chemo about a year ago and, knock on wood, it has been stable ever since. Currently we are both doing very well. He starts his senior year of high school on the 29th of August."
We wish Sandra the best in her future endeavors and hope that the $1,000 scholarship award will assist her in fulfilling her dreams.
"Honestly, I just want to say thank you. It doesn't seem to really cover it. For me, it's cathartic to tell my story and this is just the icing on the cake to receive a scholarship because of it so thank you."
