"I was inspired to start writing when I saw a need for a book that explored the wonderful world of work and that cultivated the awareness of STEM related careers at a young age,"
LOS ANGELES, CA, November 21, 2022 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Indie author Tenille Bettenhausen, announced today the release of Maybe I'll be an Architect, a children's book and resource providing career exploration to kids.
In this picture book geared to kids ages 3-7, Bettenhausen shares her passion for design and construction through a diverse perspective, and explores the wonderful world of work, while helping children cultivate the awareness of STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) at a young age.
With a background in design and construction lasting over 20 years, Bettenhausen is all too familiar with the lack of diversity in the field. In fact, women account for less than 28% of professionals in STEM related careers, and astonishingly only 0.4% of registered architects in the U.S. are African American women.
In Maybe I'll be an Architect, through the story of a young black girl who wants to become an architect, but explores other options, Bettenhausen's mission is twofold as she allows children to dream of careers and normalizes career choices for kids of diverse backgrounds. The story follows Bettenhausen's own career in architecture, where many times, she considered pivoting in her career, but architecture continued to draw her back in.
"I was inspired to start writing when I saw a need for a book that explored the wonderful world of work and that cultivated the awareness of STEM related careers at a young age," said Bettenhausen. "I'm so excited for everyone to be able to experience this book! This story is my love story to the architecture profession and hopefully will further my dream of one day seeing more than just 28% of women represented in STEM/STEAM careers."
Maybe I'll be an Architect, officially launched November 8, 2022. It is available for purchase on Amazon in kindle, hardcover, and paperback editions at https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BD61JQCX.
