From 1981 to 1986 the Pittsburgh Steel Mills disappeared and 153,000 workers lost their jobs and livelihood. What happened to this great and powerful industry?
PITTSBURGH, PA, December 08, 2022 /24-7PressRelease/ -- City of Steel is a poignant, perceptive and unabashedly personal 90-minute film documentary about the rise and fall of the steel industry in Pittsburgh and the Steel Valley. The film was produced by Bruce Spiegel who was born and raised in Pittsburgh.
For over 100 years, the region's people, communities and neighborhoods were tightly bonded to the steel mills by countless social and economic ties, shaping a unique way of life passed from generation to generation and cutting across ethnic and cultural boundaries.
Bruce Spiegel is an Emmy and Peabody award-winning filmmaker and television prodcuer whose aesthetic sensibilities were honed by a Pittsburgh childhood where he watched the Homestead Steel Works from his bedroom window.
"I wanted viewers to see and 'feel' the process of steel making," says Spiegel, "along with the sense of pride and accomplishment these workers had in producing steel. City of Steel is their story." - Bruce Spiegel
