Founded in December 1992 by David T. Peet, CAHEC began as a nonprofit syndicator serving North Carolina. Today, the organization operates in 12 southern states, has $3 billion in capital under management, has syndicated 800 communities, manages 340 properties, and is the general partner in 250 communities.

Beyond housing, CAHEC has been committed to improving communities at every level and has invested over $16 million in community initiatives, including post-secondary scholarships, food assistance, wellness grants, youth summer camp scholarships, and disaster relief funding. Over the years, CAHEC has prioritized giving back through volunteering with local nonprofits and funding food distributions throughout our footprint.
