WEST HILLS, CA, January 24, 2023 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Alen N. Cohen, MD, FACS, FARS, has been recognized as a 2023 Castle Connolly Top Doctor — the seventh time he has received the prestigious Top Doctor honor. Only about 7 percent of the nation's licensed physicians are selected annually as Castle Connolly Top Doctors in their regions for their specialties.
Dr. Cohen is the founder and director of the award-winning Southern California Sinus Institute in West Hills. The practice is part of the well-known C/V ENT Surgical Group, where Dr. Cohen serves as both a physician partner and chief executive officer (CEO). C/V is known to be one of the top ENT practices in Los Angeles, with locations in West Hills and Encino.
Dr. Cohen is an otolaryngologist - head and neck surgeon — also called an ear, nose, and throat (ENT) specialist — who focuses on evaluating and treating nasal and sinus disorders.
These include chronic sinus infections, nasal congestion, cough, sinus headaches, deviated septum, sinus and nasal polyps, Eustachian tube dysfunction, enlarged turbinates, and sleep disorders such as sleep apnea and snoring.
Dr. Cohen performs advanced, minimally invasive procedures that include in-office balloon sinuplasty, minimally invasive image-guided endoscopic sinus surgery and polyp removal, deviated septum repair, Eustachian tube dilation, snoring treatment, and LATERA® implantation for nasal-valve collapse.
When patients come to see Dr. Cohen, they are routinely pleased by his amazing bedside demeanor and how easily and quickly he diagnoses their nose and sinus problems by utilizing state-of-the-art tools like endoscopes and in-office sinus computed tomography (CT) scans.
"Many of their illusive conditions are explained to them efficiently and real solutions are provided to improve their quality of life," Dr. Cohen says. "They find that they can walk out with a definitive plan and solution to their chronic problems."
Many people with chronic nose and sinus issues are candidates for in-office balloon sinuplasty if their issues have lasted over 10-12 weeks. If they have a rather severe deviated septum, severe nasal valve collapse, or severe nasal polyposis, they may need an outpatient minimally invasive image-guided endoscopic sinus surgery with Dr. Cohen at a nearby surgical center.
Dr. Cohen also has served since 2007 as an assistant clinical professor of surgery at UCLA Medical Center. He is also affiliated with West Hills Hospital and Medical Center, where he served as chief of surgery from 2013-2018.
He is a Fellow of both the American College of Surgeons and the American Rhinologic Society. He is also board-certified by the American Board of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery.
Top Doctors are nominated by peer physicians and selected by the physician-led Castle Connolly research team.
"It is truly an honor to receive this award year in and year out to acknowledge my sincere dedication to the well-being of my patients," Dr. Cohen says.
Dr. Cohen earned his medical degree at UCLA-David Geffen School of Medicine. He completed a six-year otolaryngology/head & neck surgery residency at UCLA Medical Center.
He has also been recognized with a number of other consumer awards, including being named a Los Angeles Magazine Super Doctor since 2013.
