VANCOUVER, BC, February 05, 2023 /24-7PressRelease/ -- After setting records-setting U.S. prices for the first half 2022, drugmakers launched high-priced medicines in the second half. This is despite new legislation that lowers the cost of older prescription drugs.
The median annual price for the 17 new drugs approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration since July 2022 was $193,900. This is down from $257,000 in 2022's first half, Reuters reported. The median price for the full year 2022 was $222,000.
"It is truly shocking when you see the Reuters survey and the record-high prices of new drugs launched in the second half of the 2022," says SaveRxCanada.to.
According to the latest figures, there has been a double-digit increase in price year-over-year. Aaron Kesselheim (professor of medicine at Harvard Medical School and Brigham and Women's Hospital) said in the Reuter's article that he doesn't see any change to this trend.
