"This exhibition explores and brings a fresh perspective to some of the most important Post-War artists and artistic movements" said Alon Zakaim.
LONDON, ENGLAND, February 16, 2023 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Alon Zakaim Fine Art, the London-based gallery announced today its latest exhibition titled UK vs USA: Post-War to Present – on until 7 April 2023.
The exhibition playfully compares and contrasts some of the most influential names in Post-War art from 'both sides of the pond', including Damien Hirst, Henry Moore, L. S. Lowry, Eileen Agar, Glenn Brown, Alexander Calder, Sam Francis, and Larry Rivers to name a few.
The show totals twenty-eight works displayed in many cases as pairings: one British and one American. This allows fresh perspectives and dialogues on approaches to abstraction in art through an amazing body of work, while at the same time celebrating transatlantic artistic similarities and differences. All works are available to view on-line at alonzakaim.com
One example of this juxtaposition, says the gallery, is a comparison between American free abstractionist, Sam Francis whose work New Gold Home is unusually paired nearby Hydaspes by British artist Gillian Ayres.
Both it could be argued have adopted similar panting techniques of flinging, splattering, and dripping paint onto the surface. Ayres's work was influenced by, amongst others, Jackson Pollock, but the comparison begs the question as to what extent Francis's art resonated with her after she saw his works in London in 1959.
"This exhibition explores and brings a fresh perspective to some of the most important Post-War artists and artistic movements," said Alon Zakaim.
Each work is for sale and more details are available on the Alon Zakaim website or by calling +44 207 287 7750. The exhibition is open Monday to Friday, 9.00am to 5.00pm at 27 Cork Street, London, W1S 3NG (weekend appointments on request).
