ATLANTA, GA, March 08, 2023 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Elizabeth G. Whitaker, MD, FACS, has been recognized as a 2023 Castle Connolly Top Doctor — the 20th time she has received the prestigious Top Doctor honor! Only about 7 percent of the nation's licensed physicians are selected annually as Castle Connolly Top Doctors in their regions for their specialties.
Dr. Whitaker is a double board-certified and fellowship-trained facial plastic surgeon. Referred to as "The Queen of Faces" by many of her patients, she has owned and served as the medical director of Atlanta Face & Body Center since 2015.
Dr. Whitaker is known for patients' natural-looking results and her special expertise in facelifts — of which she has performed more than 5,000. She also performs eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty), facial contouring, laser procedures, and other types of cosmetic surgery of the face and has done over 10,000 cosmetic procedures.
Non-surgical therapies include neurotoxin injections such as BOTOX® and Xeomin®; injectable dermal fillers; light and laser treatments, including fractional laser skin resurfacing; radiofrequency microneedling; and topical skin care. She also offers nonsurgical body contouring and skin tightening solutions such as Sculpsure® and Morpheus8.
Dr. Whitaker also has a number of treatment options for men – from injectables and radiofrequency skin-tightening to surgical services such as her Signature Lift.
Dr. Whitaker is certified by both the American Board of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and the American Board of Otolaryngology. She has been in private practice since 1999 and is affiliated with Kennestone Hospital.
She is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, and the American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery.
Dr. Whitaker has served since 2002 as a clinical assistant professor of facial plastic and reconstructive surgery in the Medical College of Georgia's Department of Otolaryngology, where she also served as Chief of Facial Plastic Surgery for two years.
Dr. Whitaker finds her work very rewarding, noting that she finds facial plastic surgery to be the ultimate fusion of artistry and technical skill.
"I most enjoy seeing the patient transformation, and not just the external one," she says. "Of course, it's rewarding to see the positive changes I've made from a physical perspective, but what's truly meaningful — what drives me and makes me excited to come to work — is the patient transformation on an emotional level, the positive changes I've help to make in somebody's life."
Dr. Whitaker says many people come to see her because they don't think their external looks match how they feel on the inside.
"A lot of people have reached a point where they feel like they look tired, maybe older than their age," she says. "Seeing patients have that rejuvenated confidence and self-esteem — and the impact that can have on their lives — is pretty amazing."
Top Doctors are nominated by peer physicians and selected by the physician-led Castle Connolly research team. Dr. Whitaker is thrilled and honored to have been selected as a Top Doctor for the 20th year in a row.
"To be nominated by your peers as a Top Doctor means so much as these are your colleagues who know your reputation and your work," she says. "To have achieved that honor for 20 years is truly an amazing and humbling experience."
Dr. Whitaker earned her medical degree at Duke University School of Medicine. She completed her general surgery training and a four-year residency in otolaryngology-head and neck surgery at Emory University Hospital — serving as chief resident the final year — followed by a facial plastic and reconstructive surgery fellowship at Tulane University Medical Center.
