HALTOM CITY, TX, March 13, 2023 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Ron Sturgeon has some pretty good ideas about how to bring back Haltom City as a booming business locale. That's why he's sharing complimentary copies of his newly released second edition of "Keeping the Lights on Downtown in America's Small Cities" during a special book signing. Sign up via Eventbrite for this free event, which will be held 5-7 p.m. March 30 at Tarrant Events Center in Haltom City.

Published in early 2022, the original edition of "Keeping the Lights on Downtown in America's Small Cities: The Critical Role Small Businesses Play in Bringing Back Jobs & Prosperity" boasts numerous five-star reviews on Amazon. The second edition features seven additional chapters, with lessons Sturgeon has learned in his fight to return prosperity to his beloved Haltom City.

"Haltom City is a diamond in the rough," Sturgeon said. "We can revitalize it, and bring it back to its former glory by working together." Sturgeon became increasingly dismayed watching the ongoing decline in older corridors of Haltom City. That's why he's appealing to local leaders to help facilitate the changes needed to make Haltom City attractive to entrepreneurs.

Sturgeon knows small businesses can play a key part in improving Haltom City. As a Fort Worth real estate investor for more than three decades, Sturgeon is a self-described "intrepid serial entrepreneur." A tireless advocate for small business owners, Sturgeon proudly helps other entrepreneurs achieve their dreams – one business at a time.

While preparing to open a new small business in Haltom City, Sturgeon faced mountains of red tape as he sought the necessary approvals. That experience prompted him to start the Haltom United Business Alliance, a group that represents small business owners and advocates for reforms to make Haltom City more welcoming for small businesses.

Last year, Sturgeon launched Make Haltom City Thrive Again, an initiative that encourages city council members to take action on revitalizing declining areas, including Denton Highway, Belknap, Carson and Northeast 28th Street.

"There is no reason we cannot work to bring small businesses back to these areas," Sturgeon said. "I've been an advocate for small businesses for more than 40 years." Sturgeon started his first company in Haltom City 50 years ago, so he knows the roadblocks small operations face while struggling to succeed. "I was right out of high school, and I was homeless and penniless," he added.

Sturgeon recognizes it's an uphill battle, and winning won't happen overnight, but he adamantly believes it's possible to turn Haltom City back into a booming municipality.

"I want Haltom City to be the friendliest city in Tarrant County for small businesses," Sturgeon said. "That's the key to revitalization right there. With plenty of small lots and vacant property available, there's really no reason small businesses can't flourish here."

"I am a huge fan of this mighty city, and I want the best for our residents and businesses," Sturgeon added. "My legacy will be improving Haltom City."

Located at 5230 Denton Highway, off Loop 820, in Haltom City, Texas, Tarrant Events Center offers plenty of parking. The book signing is a family-friendly event, so everyone is welcome, including dogs. Participants can enjoy free hot dogs and soft drinks, so bring your appetite.
