WASHINGTON, DC, September 10, 2023 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The American Trucking Associations and Family Enterprises USA have formed a new strategic partnership to jointly advocated across all levels of government on behalf of family-owned businesses.
The announcement today makes American Trucking Association (ATA) a member of Family Enterprise USA (FEUSA) and provides all ATA-member companies, many of which are family-owned businesses, access to FEUSA benefits and resources.
"ATA has been advocating on behalf of family-owned businesses for almost a century as we enter our ninetieth year," said David Bauer, Vice President of State & Policy for ATA. "This partnership with Family Enterprises makes perfect sense as we head towards looming tax debates in Congress," said Bauer. "Family Enterprise USA has been a strong voice on behalf of the country's backbone: family-owned businesses that employ millions of Americans," he added. "ATA members look forward to adding our own voice to theirs as we take to the halls of Congress to promote tax policy that both protects and promotes family businesses."
ATA is the voice of the industry America depends on most to move our nation's freight. The 90-year-old federation has state trucking association affiliates in all 50 states, encompassing more than 34,000 members. ATA represents every sector of the industry, from LTL to truckload, agriculture, and livestock to auto haulers, and from large motor carriers to small mom-and-pop operations.
According to research, America's multi-generational family-owned businesses contribute $7.7 trillion annually to the U.S. gross domestic product. Family businesses are the largest private employers in the country, accounting for 83.3 million jobs, or 59 percent of the country's private workforce.
Each year Family Enterprise USA conducts a survey measuring the pulse of family-owned businesses, including trucking companies. This year, the study found the biggest worry resided in the country's tax policies, with 50% of respondents saying high personal income taxes were the number one concern, up from 45% a year ago.
"We're excited to have ATA and its members as part of our growing family business voice on Capitol Hill," said Pat Soldano, President, Family Enterprise USA. "Our goals are to educate our legislators on the size and power of family-owned trucking companies, and all family businesses, and to let them know of damaging tax and economic policies affecting their business," she said. "Data shows family businesses are more trusted than most business and they keep jobs, add jobs, pay better than average wages, and give back to their communities, all of which are strong arguments to keep our family business trucking companies thriving."
