Actor Courtney Rioux and Congressman Jesús "Chuy" García To Discuss AI In The Workplace At Institute For Work and The Economy Event

    CHICAGO, IL, November 30, 2023 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Perhaps the greatest concern of professionals who earn a living in the creative arts – writers, actors, visual artists – is the growing intrusion of artificial intelligence (AI) in their workplace. Software-facilitated production leverages publicly available work to replace the efforts and earnings of creative talent. Today, the AI industry and its work product are growing exponentially, well ahead of critical rules and laws needed to provide safeguards, including fair use in the workplace.

On Monday, December 11, actor and SAG-AFTRA leader Courtney Rioux, and Congressman Jesús "Chuy" García, will participate in a public discussion about AI's impact on the creative workplace and legislative efforts underway to regulate it. Facilitated by Peter Creticos, Executive Director of the Institute for Work and the Economy, the discussion will focus on worker impact and labor's and legislators' efforts to preserve a fair work environment.

"Much of the discussion on the effects of AI on workers and the workplace is driven by corporate executives and Silicon Valley. Actors and writers are the first and most prominent to publicly challenge the consequences of AI on workers and their futures. This event kicks off the Institute's effort involving workers to build a framework for the ethical deployment of AI in workplaces."

IWE created and hosted the international Many Futures of Work initiative that launched with its global conference in Chicago. Its focus on the impact of AI on the workplace and workers is an extension of this initiative.
