HARTSDALE, NY, January 26, 2024 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Bennie W. Chiles III, MD, has been named a 2024 Castle Connolly Top Doctor in the field of neurosurgery/spine surgery — the fifth consecutive year he has been recognized with the prestigious Top Doctor honor. Only about 7 percent of the nation's licensed physicians are selected annually as Castle Connolly Top Doctors in their regions for their specialties.
Dr. Chiles is a neurosurgeon with advanced fellowship training in complex spine surgery. He is the founder and owner of Westchester Spine and Brain Surgery, PLLC, a multi-hospital private practice in the Westchester County, NY, town of Hartsdale.
Dr. Chiles specializes in the evaluation and treatment of adults with surgical conditions of the nervous system. He has particular expertise in complex and challenging spine issues — primarily degenerative conditions such as spinal stenosis and herniated discs, as well as less common problems such as spinal tumors, infections, and traumatic injuries.
Dr. Chiles performs a wide variety of simple and complex spine procedures such as spinal fusions, discectomies, cervical artificial-disc placement, laminectomies, and spinal stabilization. He utilizes sophisticated modalities such as minimally invasive techniques and intraoperative computer guidance when appropriate.
Certified by the American Board of Neurological Surgery in 2002, he is also a Fellow of both the American College of Surgeons (ACS) and the American Association of Neurological Surgeons (AANS).
One of Dr. Chiles' fundamental philosophies is that he rarely recommends or offers surgery unless there is clear and compelling evidence to suggest that it is likely to bring significant benefit and there are no reasonable nonsurgical alternatives since surgery carries risks that must be very carefully considered. However, if surgery is needed, patients can be assured that Dr. Chiles will use state-of-the-art techniques and equipment to maximize the possibility of the safest and best outcome.
A New York City native, Dr. Chiles has served since 1998 as a faculty member with New York Medical College's Department of Neurosurgery and as an attending neurosurgeon at Westchester Medical Center.
He is also an attending neurosurgeon at White Plains Hospital Center, St. John's Riverside Hospital, New York-Presbyterian Westchester, Montefiore New Rochelle Hospital, and Stamford Hospital in Connecticut.
Dr. Chiles earned his medical degree at the University of California, San Francisco School of Medicine in 1991. He completed a seven-year residency in neurological surgery — serving as chief resident the final two years — and a fellowship in complex spine surgery fellowship, all at New York University Medical Center.
He also holds a bachelor's degree in biological science from Harvard University.
Dr. Chiles has been consistently honored for many years with a number of recognitions, including the Vitals Patients' Choice Award and inclusion in the annual New York Magazine list of Top Doctors in the New York Metro Area.
Top Doctors are nominated by peer physicians and selected by the physician-led Castle Connolly research team.
When asked to comment on his recognition, Dr. Chiles said, "I am humbled and honored to once again be recognized by Castle Connolly as a Top Doctor in my field. The Castle Connolly name is universally regarded as the premier acknowledgment that physicians can receive for the work we do."
