AUSTIN, TX, September 23, 2008 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Stephen W. Stewart, founding member of The Stewart Law Firm, P.L.L.C. in Austin, Texas, has filed a lawsuit in State District Court on behalf of two (2) minor boys who were sexually, physically, and emotionally abused by a hotel manager at an Austin, Texas hotel. According to pleadings, the two (2) minor boys, ages ten (10) and twelve (12), were residents or guests at the Budget Lodge in Austin, Texas. Hotel manager and employee, Douglas Wayne Ward, on multiple occasions in March 2008 through June 2008, engaged in unlawful and forceful sexual, physical, and emotional abuse upon the minor boys. The minor boys have suffered significant psychological damages from having to endure the abuse committed upon them and both are currently in therapy to help deal with the trauma. In his lawsuit, attorney Stephen Stewart has alleged that Douglas Wayne Ward's employer, 9920 NIH 35 LLC, was negligent and grossly negligent in hiring, screening, training, and supervising Ward.
Just days prior to the filing of the civil lawsuit, Douglas Wayne Ward voluntarily plead guilty to one (1) count of aggravated sexual assault of a child, one (1) count of indecency with a child, and two (2) counts of retaliation. As part of his voluntary plea agreement, Ward was sentenced to twenty-five (25) years in prison. During his sentencing, parents and grandparents of the two (2) abused boys spoke to Ward, explaining to Ward that "...we still have to go through this pain. I hope God has mercy on you."
Regarding the recently filed lawsuit, Stephen W. Stewart explains that he will remain steadfast in the pursuit of justice on behalf of his two (2) minor child clients during the prosecution of this case. "It is a shame that monsters like Douglas Wayne Ward exist," states Stewart, "but it is an injustice to these small boys, and to the community, when employers, like Ward's, fail to adhere to prudent and proper employment practices. Without any doubt, with just a little effort in proper hiring, proper screening, and proper supervision, this tragedy could have been easily avoided. Sadly, for these small and impressionable children, Ward's employer failed to act properly, causing a lifetime of pain, torment, and suffering." "Hopefully, we can get these boys the help that they so desperately need," states Stewart.
