/24-7PressRelease/ - LAKE OSWEGO, OR, September 22, 2008 - Planet Protect Sportswear of Lake Oswego, Oregon recently unveiled the latest addition to their successful line of sea life T-shirts - the Hammerhead Shark. The company - disturbed by the decimation of sharks through the practice of 'shark finning' - created the shirt to remind people of the beauty and necessity of sharks in our oceans. More than 100 million sharks are killed each year for fins, oils and other non-necessary commercial products. 10% of each T-shirt sale goes toward ocean advocacy.
Planet Protect Sportswear founder - Jim Beriault, an ocean advocate, has personally seen the increases in pollution (especially plastic debris), and ocean damage and started Planet Protect Sportswear to raise money, awareness and sell clothing that has meaning for their customers.
He recently asked his designers to come up with a new design in the Sea Life Series. Currently the company sells a dolphin, turtle, and stingray design and decided to add the Hammerhead Shark to the series. "Right now congress is seeking to protect sharks in U.S. waters (The bill is in the Senate), hopefully the bill will be signed into law, however, throughout the world, sharks are killed for fins, oils and other non-essential items some people deem valuable. I totally disagree with these practices and we will put our money to work to stop the senseless slaughter of these amazing predators," said Jim Beriault, CEO of Planet Protect Sportswear.
Planet Protect's primary goal is to help fund several non-profit groups helping fight against pollution and seek to protect our most valuable ocean based resources for future generations. During the check-out process the Planet Protect customer can designate 10% of their total purchase to Oceana, Earth Share or the Planet Protect Fund (the company's lobbying fund). Planet Protect Sportswear can be found on the web at www.PlanetProtect.com.
The Sea-Life series for both men and women are 100% organic cotton and made in the USA.
"I've spent my life around oceans and water and feel strongly about protecting our future, and aligning with strong non-profit groups ensure that we have a blue planet filled with amazing animals and healthy for humans, now and in the future," said Beriault.
It's important to note that Planet Protect Sportswear makes their donations based on the total purchase price (excluding shipping and handling charges) of the customer and this donation comes from Planet Protect's gross profit as a company and is not tax deductible on the customer's part.
