PMA recently honored the best books and marketing programs in 52 categories at the annual Benjamin Franklin Awards handed out in New York on June 1, 2005, two days prior to the annual Book Expo America conference.
Named one of three finalists in the humor category, Happy Tails - Hilarious Helpful Hints for Dog Owners, ($11.50, published October 2004) was highlighted for, "Advice and humor couched together is often hard to do. It is done well here. Dog owners should read this book, no question." Another judge wrote, "This book appeals to dog lovers because it gives the pet "family like" treatment."
Happy Tails - Hilarious Helpful Hints for Dog Owners, deals with training, care and behavior of dogs in a humorous style. With section titles of "Your Perfect Puppy, Yours Less-Thank-Perfect Puppy, Dastardly Dog Deeds, If Men are From Mars, are Dogs From Pluto?, Going Mobile!, and Your questions Answered" the reader gets it straight from the dogs' mouth, Hank, the main character. The book is written from a dog's perceptive. The Benjamin Franklin award recognized that the book was among the most successful in achieving its purpose and meeting the intended audience's needs.
Judged by a panel of book industry experts including buyers at wholesale and retail levels, librarians, book critics, design experts and independent consultants, these books have been scrutinized by individuals involved in the very markets in which the books were competing.
