Nursing Home Malpractice

Unfortunately, not all nursing homes are created equal and, while it's true you or your family is paying for the right to live there, the staff may not be treating you with the care and respect you deserve.

PHILADELPHIA, PA/NEW JERSEY, NY, October 04, 2008 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Almost every one of us will end up living in some type of retirement facility late in life. If that facility happens to be a nursing home, it is usually because we are no longer able to care for ourselves well enough. At this point, loss of memory may be an issue, as well, so taking medications, even remembering to bathe and eat, can become tasks we overlook regularly.

Unfortunately, not all nursing homes are created equal and, while it's true you or your family is paying for the right to live there, the staff may not be treating you with the care and respect you deserve. You and your family, when they come to visit, need to be watching for signs of potential negligence or mistreatment. These signs can include:

• Bed sores
• Pressure sores
• Infections
• Dehydration
• Malnutrition
• Unexplained ailments
• Untreated illnesses
• Slip and fall accidents
• Unwarranted physical restraint
• Medication errors
• Resident/patient isolation
• Lack of adequately trained staff
• Lack of staff supervision

Any of these unacceptable types of treatment may be signs of nursing home malpractice. In other words, intentional negligent acts on the part of the nursing home staff that may cause physical, emotional or mental harm to the nursing home residents.

If you or your family thinks that you are being mistreated while a nursing home resident, you should contact an experienced attorney immediately. Discuss your concerns in detail. Listen to the advice your attorney gives you. It may include relocating you or your family member to a more reputable nursing home. In the meantime, an attorney who is skilled in dealing with nursing home malpractice claims can investigate the allegations and determine what type of compensation is due as a result of the mistreatment endured.

Not all nursing home facilities are created equal. Despite which one you or your loved one live in, negligence and mistreatment should never be considered acceptable. Not even for a second.

If you or a loved one has been seriously injured or died as a result of nursing home malpractice in New Jersey or the Philadelphia metropolitan area, please visit Weiss & Paarz P.C. today.
