ANDOAIN, SPAIN, October 11 2008 /24-7PressRelease/ -- SAPA Placencia announced today a Cooperative Research and Development Agreement ("CRADA") between the U.S. Army Tank - Automotive Research, Development and Engineering Center (TARDEC) and the Company has been established.
SAPA Placencia designs and manufactures auxiliary power units (APU) for installation in military vehicles. SAPA is the OEM for the new Spanish Leopard 2E MBT program where it has developed an extremely compact, highly efficient under armor diesel powered unit. Based on this experience, SAPA and TARDEC wish to jointly evaluate the performance of this available technology.
Under the Agreement SAPA will provide the APU, personnel, engineering and maintenance support. TARDEC will provide testing procedures, equipment, facility and personnel to set up and perform the tests on the 7.5 KW / 28 Vdc APU engine and power generation unit designed and manufactured by SAPA. Work under this agreement will be performed at the TARDEC facilities in Warren, Michigan.
This CRADA supports TARDEC's on going activities to explore currently available products which will satisfy current Common Non-Primary Power System (CNPS) specifications and will serve as a technical survey.
