MINNEAPOLIS, MN, December 03, 2008 /24-7PressRelease/ -- MillCityScene.com, the Twin Cities' newest niche publication, is throwing an event to celebrate the release of their first official print edition, which covers Minneapolis hip-hop and issues relating to the scene. Performing are Big Quarters, Kristoff Krane, Carnage, Hyder Ali, and El Guante.
The event takes place Saturday, Dec. 27, at 8 p.m. at 7th Street Entry in downtown Minneapolis. The show costs $5 in advance and $7 at the door, with tickets available at Fifth Element, Electric Fetus, Treehouse, the First Avenue Box Office, and Ticketmaster. This is an 18+ show.
The print edition is due out in the middle of the month, and the publication's contributors will be pitching in over the following two weeks to get it distributed to key locations throughout the Twin Cities, such as record stores, coffee shops, bars, clothing stores, campuses, and more.
This edition includes portions of an exclusive interview with local Rhymesayers Entertainment rapper Eyedea, two opposing viewpoints on the use of sampling in rap music, a profile of the local hip-hop band Lothario, a review with photos from the Beastie Boys concert, and an opinion piece about activism in the hip-hop community written by local slam-poetry champion Kyle "El Guante" Myhre.
There is also a hip-hop themed crossword puzzle constructed by the editor. Players who finish it correctly and return it to the editor can win prizes, including free concert tickets and a gift certificate to Fifth Element.
Editor-in-Chief Roe Pressley is proud of the work he and the contributors have produced.
"Everyone involved shows a real passion for writing and for the scene we're covering," he says. "Throwing this show is going to be the icing on the cake, and we plan to throw another one the next time we go to print."
Their quarterly release acts as a physical companion to the website, which contains everything in the print edition and a whole lot more. The print version, Pressley says, really serves as a publicity piece to lure people to the website.
"There's so much more happening on the website that people don't know about yet," he says. "For example, you can win concert tickets by playing poker on the site for free. How many other publications offer that?"
